1. When did you first start riding?
I started riding bmx in elementary (that's Primary School for the colonials). My mom's friend had a son who was into racing and built a track in the woods behind their house. After a while the boys wouldn't let me ride anymore because I beat them all!
I only commute (130 miles a week) now and do a little MTB now and then. I also run my dogs for exercise. My English bully, Tula, is now blind, but she still loves her weekly bike rides.
2. Favourite place that you have travelled?
My favourite place I've travelled has to be Washington state. The Olympic national forest is magical.
3. Favourite place that you have ridden?
My favourite ride was from Miami to Key Largo. It was supposed to be from Miami to Key West but I hate deep water and bridges so I had to stop half way. I really thought I could do it, too. One day I'm going to go back and complete the ride. It was the best and worst ride all in one.
4. Who inspires you and why?
My grandmother inspires me. Although she passed in 2004 I still strive to be like her. Living through WW2 as a teenager made her very strong willed, yet very compassionate.
5. What is your top riding tip?
Wear your helmet! No matter how short a ride.
6. I have to admit I never heard the word "kit"! I asked my friend who is a road biker and she laughed. "You wouldn't know what it is, you wear cut off sweats and a tank top to bike in."
I do have a favorite piece of clothing. My Terry windbreaker gloves and my black arm warmers to match.
7. Favourite activity other than cycling?
My other favorite activity is hiking! I'm training to do hike Isle Royale in Michigan and the Knobstone Trail later this summer.
I'm also an avid birder, kayaker and paddle boarder. Really anything outdoorsy.
Is there anything else you would like to share with our members?
I would also like to advocate for volunteerism. I work at a park that has hiking and mountain biking trails. We always are looking for volunteers to help with trail maintenance. So if you use any sort of trail, ask if there's anything you can do to help. Remember... Leave No Trace!
Thank's for that Natasha! It was great to get to know you 🙂 looking forward to meeting our next member on Member Mondays.
